Dr. Andrew McNutt - Assistant Professor of Computer Science

Background
Dr. McNutt received a BA in degree in Physics from Reed College. He received an MS in Computer Science from University of Chicago in 2019 and then a Ph.D. in Computer Science from them in 2023. During his Ph.D. he completed internships with Tableau and Microsoft Research. After receiving his Ph.D he was a Post Doctoral scholar at University of Washington.
Current Responsibilities
Dr. McNutt’s research is concerned with supporting users in a way that supports and enhances their agency and ability to do meaningful work in general and with data. This involves the design of interactive visualization tools and platforms, domain specific languages, and theories of visualization; for instance supporting answering questions like what does it mean for a visualization to be "good”. Andrew's work traverses a variety of domains including data science, creative coding, and digital humanities.
