Background

I received my Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Arizona under the advisement of Professor Josh Levine. At the University of Arizona, I worked primarily in the field of Topological Data Analysis where I focused on the computational aspects of defining distances between Reeb graphs and merge trees. After finishing my Ph.D., I headed into industry where I worked as a data analyst and software developer for a geo-location services company. Realizing that my passion was in data visualization and software development, I headed back into academia to work in the Visualization Design Lab here at the University of Utah.

Current Responsibilities

Most of my work is focused on the data ingestion and architecture of the Loon/Aardvark application in the Visualization Design Lab. Aside from this, I am also an individual contributor to the reVISit project. Both of these projects, developed by graduate students and faculty at the University of Utah in collaboration with individuals from outside institutions, are fully open source.

Research Interests

  • Full Stack Development
  • Exploratory Visual Analysis
  • Topological Data Analysis
