Dr. Daniel Balouek-Thomert - Research Associate
supervisor Dr. Manish Parashar
Background
Daniel received a Master’s degree from Université Pierre et Marie Curie and Télécom ParisTech (France) and Ph.D. degree from the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon (France). Before joining SCI, he was a research associate at Rutgers University and an Engineer at Inria (France). His PhD research focused on implementing tradeoff mechanisms between performance and energy consumption for large scale cloud applications. During his time at Rutgers, he investigated programming support and resource management for data-driven analytics and edge computing applications.
Current Responsibilities
- Performance models for adapting end-to-end services to effectively process data-driven workflows
- Orchestration of analytics for decision-making on next-generation cloud/edge datacenters
Research Interests
Daniel's research is broadly in the areas of distributed systems. His current research addresses the control and advanced usages of Edge computing systems with regards to the content of the data, cost of computations, and urgency of the results. Application of this work includes cyber-infrastructures, AI/ML applications and data-centric/middleware systems.
