Background

Kalina is a PhD student in Graphics and Visualization. Until 2024, Kalina was the director of the Advanced Visualization Lab and director of the Visualization Program Office at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Kalina has contributed cinematic scientific visualization to numerous films including “A Beautiful Planet” (IMAX), “Solar Superstorms” (fulldome), and “Seeing the Beginning of Time” (Amazon Prime), as well as visualizations for The New York Times. Kalina is the primary developer of Ytini (ytini.com) and CloudFindr.

Current Responsibilities

Kalina is currently researching design best practices for cinematic scientific visualizations.
