Background
Dr. Coffman earned his Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience at Brigham Young University, Provo, UT under the supervision of Dr. Dixon J. Woodbury. He successfully defended his dissertation in December 2022. His Ph.D. dissertation focused on the effects of alcohol on lipid membrane-membrane fusion (neurotransmitter release) and SNARE proteins. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, with an emphasis in Neuroscience, at Brigham Young University-Idaho.
Prior to pursuing his doctoral degree, he was adjunct faculty at BYU-idaho between September 2015-July 2017 teaching the lab portion of introductory to biology. He also worked in construction part-time at that time.
Current Responsibilities
Dr. Coffman is using enhanced sampling techniques in molecular dynamics simulations to better understand the conformational changes of the integrin proteins.
