Sadly, our great friend, mentor, and supporter, John Warnock, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023. I was fortunate to meet John when I was a young Assistant Professor, and I got to spend time with this amazing person over the past many years. He was always ready to tell stories giving details and background of his innovations in computer graphics and desktop publishing. He also enjoyed talking about his passion for great books and this efforts to share these great books with the world via his Rare Book Room: http://www.rarebookroom.org.

warnockOn February 16, 2007, we celebrated the dedication of the magnificent John E. and Marva M. Warnock Engineering Building, the SCI Institute’s wonderful new home. In 2011 John kindly gave the keynote presentation at SCIx, which was a celebration of the SCI Institute’s multidisciplinary research. These are just a few small examples of his kindness and generosity to our community over the years. We will miss him deeply.

In March of this year, I was thrilled to see John again as part of the IEEE Milestone Award for Computer Graphics.  John gave some memorable presentations:

John made a tremendous impact in the world and especially to the faculty, staff, and students of the SCI Institute.
